MySpace

MySpace is a popular social networking site. It offers an interactive network of friends, blogs, groups, photos, music and videos. Members can meet people with similar interests. Although fun, MySpace has gotten a bad reputation in the last year do due bad press in regards to safety issues.

EXERCISE #7:

• By now you should have read the article on wikis and collaborative writing.
• You should now read the discussion, MySpace and Deleting Online Predators Act (DOPA)

• View the STDL Teen Page on MySpace.
• Next, visit the MySpace page for Charlotte-Mecklenburg. Explore the page to discover images, podcasts, videos, and other technologies that can be promoted on MySpace.
• Search for other library pages on MySpace. Try the words -- public libraries -- there are quite a few! Explore some of these other sites.
• Go to your blog and post about MySpace and how it can benefit libraries.

• Now, read about online safety. Read the article, NetSafe: Using the Internet Safely
• Click to download the available bookmarks and read about Internet safety. Feel free to print the bookmarks for your use.
• Go to your blog and post about Internet safety. Do you have safety concerns about the Internet? Post them to your blog.
