STEP #1:

Library 2.0 and Blogs

Blog is short for weblog. A weblog is a journal (or newsletter) that is frequently updated and intended for general public viewing. Blogs generally represent the personality of the author. They may also represent a professional association. Blogs have taken on new objectives as more individuals find a use for a blog.

EXERCISE #1:

A.

 B.

  • Now create a blog using Blogger
  • You will need to set up an account first. Just follow the step-by-step instructions. Use your library email to set up the blog and use a password you can remember. You will need this information to log on each time you access your blog.
  • You will be prompted for a blogger name or title. Think of something that is unique to you, the program, or the library.
  • Pick a background for your blog. You can always change this later.
  • Your ready to start posting (or writing) to your blog!
  • Use a title that describes your first post. In the larger box, tell us about your experience with 2.0 technology, any articles you have read, or just tell us how you felt when setting up your blog. It's all yours!
  • Be sure to click Publish when finished.
  • Send an email to Kathy Morgan with your site's address so she can track your progress. Kathy Morgan -- kmorgan@stdl.org -- copy & paste into your outlook email.

To access your blog again, go to Blogger and enter your email and password.

 C.

  • Now find a blog about something you are interested in -- a hobby or other interest. You may want to start at the library's search engine page and choose a search engine.
  • Post to your blog, a minimum of 50 words, describing your experience, how blogs are useful tools for libraries or how STDL can use blogs to promote services or share information.
  • Kathy Morgan will be checking your site regularly and leaving comments. If you do not get a comment, check the FAQ page for more information.
